Mar 26 2008, 8:15 AM EDT I wonder whether we could use this wonderful adventure to start a knowledge gathering exercise on the theme, and thus build something? The first thing I discovered after this thought is the Children's Literature Association which produces a Quarterly, which is in our library, and I presume available electronically, so scuttle off and grep Now we can work on what they have had to say about the forbidden fruit theme?: And post The second thought I found was the link between film and literature. I had found a book in the BFI bookshop on children's film and censorship, but I hadn't thought to take down the detail, as I wasn't that interested at that stage, so back to the BFI, or try grepping the concept. Do you find this valuable? |

Apr 6 2008, 9:47 AM EDT Hi John - Good idea about trying to build something from the conference. Hopefully we can discuss ideas in plenaries and online discussions. The links between different media's an interesting topic. Young people involved in some research I've done had some interesting things to say about the differences between print and visual media - see http://www.ebase.bcu.ac.uk/imgs/pdf.gif Some pointed out that they censored themselves when they read - only imaging a version which they could cope with, whereas when they watched a film they had no choice but to see the director's interpretation. Do you find this valuable? |

Apr 24 2008, 9:13 AM EDT the knowbot proceeds apace I was at the library and information show in birmingham yesterday, where the school library association had a very substantial presence. the magazine has developed into quite a glossy after the barely roneod of my early days. what they do, think, argue and support, with 5,000 members, is an important focus for this theme I almost wish I was still a school librarian Do you find this valuable? |
